Simplicity offers seminars on home organizationOriginally a lawyer by trade, Melissa Schmalenberger began her career as MS. Simplicity in 2007, taking her eye for detail and turning it into a business specializing in home and office organization. “It is my goal to help my clients create and maintain a system of organizing that works for each individual person,” she says. “I work with the client to create the organized and relaxing home or business that they never thought possible.”
Schmalenberger will bring that philosophy to her seminars addressing garage organization, tidying your kitchen and cleaning up clutter hotspots like the family “launch pad,” or entryway.
“The days of the dungeon garage are gone,” she says. “Find systems that will enable you to find everything in your garage, from a hammer to off-season clothing. I will also give tips on getting families in and out of the house in an organized manner every day, and ways to turn that front-door dumping ground into the organized space you’ve been dreaming of.”
When it comes to kitchens, Schmalenberger says her seminar will show attendees how to maximize the kitchen space they have, no matter the size. “Families spend the majority of their waking time centered in the kitchen, so it’s important to keep that area in-check!” she says.

Fall Home Show
Architects Focusing on Kitchens
A recent study published by the American Institute of Architects found that there is an increase in inquiries about kitchen remodeling – a positive sign for the kitchen and bath industry. The study also gathered homeowners’ wish lists for upgrading their kitchen space and found many want pantries, recycling cabinets and electronic device recharging stations. In addition, consumers want the kitchen design to be integrated with the family room. Other wants include wine storage, composting options and pet feeding areas.
While these trends aren’t necessarily new, us designers need to communicate the many options that are available as well as their ability to deliver on these requests. Here are a few tips for you the client to see and understand the wide array of choices including:
- Display – Our displays show functional storage like a recycling center or food pantry. Mid Continent offers a complete line of interior accessories arranged in functional groups such as sink/clean up area, prep area and hearth/cooking area.
- Merchandising – We “dress” the inside of our displays to illustrate how it is used. Our showroom displays gives you the consumer a visual which can be helpful to see utensils organized in a drawer or spices in a spice rack.
- Portfolio – Do you have a portfolio of the projects you have completed that illustrate how you have incorporated these trends for former clients? Photos are priceless when it comes to establishing credibility. – Check out our website at www.accentcontracting.com to see our portfolio.
The key to meeting client needs is letting them know you understand what they want and then making that wish list a reality.
